The Constituency Award Honor Roll is an illustrious one. Here we take a backward glance at thirty years of Constituency Award recipients, noting just one or two reasons of the many why they were each recognized.
2020: Larin McLaughlin, University of Washington Press, for her contributions to advancing the goals of diversity and inclusion in the university press community
2019: Gita Manaktala, MIT Press, for leadership in diversity and inclusion initiatives at her home press and the Association
2018: Colleen Lanick, MIT Press, for her tireless service to the Association and instrumental role in the growing success of University Press Week
2017: Michael Donatelli, University of North Carolina Press, for his creativity in finding new sales outlets for university press books and generosity in mentoring newer colleagues
2016: Greg Britton, Johns Hopkins University Press, for his vibrant and essential contributions to the Annual Meetings and Association Committee work
2015: Carol Kasper, University of Chicago Press, for the tireless mentorship, support, and training she provided to staff at her Press and across the Association
2014: Bob Oeste, Johns Hopkins University Press, for his generosity with his technical knowledge and championing of metadata standards for the scholarly publishing community
2013: Rebecca Schrader, MIT Press, for her commitment and innovation as a peer mentor and educator
2012: Vicky Wells, University of North Carolina Press, for her ability and willingness to consider solutions to new problems and challenges facing academic publishing
2011: Don Collins, University of Chicago Press, for his improvement on best business practices and encouragement of inter-press cooperation
2010: Will Powers, Minnesota Historical Society Press, for embodying the values of the university press community at his home Press, on behalf of the Association, and throughout his long career (awarded posthumously)
2009: Tony Crouch, University of California Press, for his commitment to sustainable publishing
2008: Robbie Dircks, University of North Carolina Press, for long service to the Association and as a generous source of counsel to peers throughout scholarly publishing
2007: Paul Murphy, RAND, for his vital efforts to help scholarly publishers benefit from new technologies
2006: Jennifer Crewe, Columbia University Press, for her overall commitment to the Association and community, and particularly her dedication to areas of professional development
2005: Susan Schott, University Press of Kansas, for her extensive service to the Association and generosity in sharing knowledge across the scholarly publishing community
2004: Patrick Carroll, Princeton University Press, for his service on the Board of Directors, including two terms as Treasurer, during a time of intense change in the university press community
2003: William C. Ackermann, University of Illinois Press, for his more than ten years of service on Association committees and his efforts to ‘de-secretize’ the financial functions of university presses
2002: Seetha Srinivasan, University Press of Mississippi, for her longstanding commitment to the work of the Association over her more than 20-year career in university presses
2001: Lain Adkins, University of Chicago Press, for his work automating the Association’s accounting system and restructuring its investment policies during his term as Treasurer
2000: Janet Fisher, MIT Press, for leadership on issues and education surrounding journals and electronic publishing across the scholarly publishing community
1999: Sanford Thatcher, Penn State University Press, for his decades-long activity and advocacy in the realm of copyright
1998: Kathleen Ketterman and Anita Walker Scott, University of North Carolina Press and Johns Hopkins University Press, for their spirit of volunteerism within the Association and generosity in sharing knowledge and experience with the larger community
1996: Bruce Barton, Chuck Creesy, and Michael Jensen, University of Chicago Press, Princeton University Press, and National Academies Press, for their work together developing and launching an online Association-wide catalog, and the much-trafficked Association listservs
1995: Sheldon Meyer, Oxford University Press, for his long history of service to the Association and his contributions to the wider community through his work as an editor
1994: Richard Hendel, University of North Carolina Press, for setting a standard for excellence in the realm of design and production during his thirty-year career in publishing
1993: Tina Olton, University of California Press, for her years of service as an Association Board member, an architect of the annual operating plan, and a leader in the area of professional development
1992: Harry Van Ierssel, University of Toronto Press, for his enormous contribution to the well-being of many individual presses via his annual statistical survey and to the Association itself with his wise consul on financial matters
1991: Naomi Pascal, University of Washington Press, for her enrichment of scholarly and cultural life as an active member of the scholarly publishing community for close to forty years
